The lengthwise or longitudinal warp yarns are held stationary in tension on a frame or loom or branch while the transverse weft (sometimes woof) is drawn through and inserted over and under the warp. \nTo sign up call\, email or stop in Latimer Quilt & Textile Center to reserve your spot. SUMMARY:Sashiko & Beyond – The Graceful Art of Japanese Hand Stitching
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Helene Knott\nDate: March 1\, 2025\nTime: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (6 Hours)\nClass Size: Max of 12\nLocation: 2105 Wilson River Loop Road\, Tillamook\, OR 97141\nPrice: $85.00 (Latimer Member); $95.00 (Non-Member)(Prices include the kit materials) \nSashiko & Beyond – The Graceful Art of Japanese Hand Stitching\nSashiko is a classic form of Japanese needlework dating back to antiquity. Superficially\, it resembles quilting but the thread is coarser and the stitches larger. The resulting work is rustic and often utilitarian and so it is considered more of a country or folk art in Japan than a formal one. There are a wide variety of classical Sashiko designs but the stitching method can be applied to patterns and designs far beyond the traditional Japanese patterns. In the class\, you will learn the basics of Sashiko while stitching a small mat\, mug rug; or you may opt to start on a larger\, more complex project if you wish. Put an extra layer of cloth under the stitching and now you have Boro – the art of Japanese mending. Also called ‘Visible Mending’ in the fiber arts community\, this rustic patching technique has gained popularity both as a utilitarian craft and a decorative art as well. The class will include a lesson on this method and students are encouraged to bring a piece of stained or damaged clothing to patch if they wish on a garment that needs patching.

SUMMARY:Open Audition for Things My Mother Taught Me at TAPA
DESCRIPTION:The Tillamook Association for the Performing Arts is pleased to announce auditions for its February/March 2025 production of Things My Mother Taught Me\, a comedy written by Katherine DiSavino. Director Ann Harper will be holding the auditions on Sunday November 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 in the Barn Community Playhouse at 12th and Ivy in Tillamook. This play has a cast of seven. The young couple Olivia and Gabe are in their 20-30s.  Their parents Wyatt\, Lydia\, Karen\, and Carter are 40s-60s. The age ranges are approximate and will depend on the chemistry of actors who try out. Max\, the building Super\, will be fluidly cast as any gender of adult age. Things My Mother Taught Me will run Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 and Sundays at 2:00 from February 21 through March 9. \nThe play takes place in the Chicago apartment of Olivia and Gabe. They have moved halfway across the country to start a new life together and their parents show up unexpectedly to help with the move in chores. Unfortunately\, they are not in the best neighborhood according to Max and must deal with some unsavory characters and situations on the street several floors down. \nAnn Harper is an experienced TAPA director who enjoys working with seasoned actors as well as those with little to no experience on the stage. She encourages anyone who would like to perform in front of an audience to audition for this sweet comedic production. Rehearsals will begin in late November at the Barn and will be scheduled according to the actors’ availability. Prospective cast members may look to the website tillamooktheater.com or phone the box office at (503) 812-0275 to request an audition packet. Packets will also be available at the auditions. If you are interested in auditioning but are unable to attend on the 24th\, please phone the box office and speak with Ann to make alternate arrangements. \nThings My Mother Taught Me is sponsored by Cyndi Lewis\, Rob Trost Real Estate. Tickets are on sale now for TAPA’s 2024-25 season at tillamooktheater.com.
