SUMMARY:ORCHESTRA PRESENTS FAMILY CONCERTS IN MARCH
DESCRIPTION:The North Oregon Coast Symphony continues its 2023-2024 season with two concerts in March. Designed to please audience members of all ages\, the performances will feature Greg Smith’s Zoo Song.  This musical story of a young person’s first visit to the zoo is a wonderful form for introducing the various orchestral instruments\, as each animal in the story is represented by a musical “voice.”  The narrator will be Deac Guidi\, a local professional opera singer who has performed throughout the northwest region.  He also teaches Speech Communication at Clatsop Community College. \nContinuing the animals theme\, the program includes three short pieces from Saint Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. A solo cello\, string bass\, and clarinet portray an elegant swan\, a lumbering elephant\, and a cuckoo calling\, all accompanied by pianist Diane Amos. \nOther highlights of the concerts include the orchestral work Irlande by Augusta Holmès\, the familiar Pomp and Circumstance by Edward Elgar\, Julius Fucik’s Entry of the Gladiators\, and Elmer Bernstein’s Great Escape March. \nThe first concert will take place on Saturday\, March 16\, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. Hwy 101\, Nehalem\, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm. \nThe second concert will be on Sunday\, March 17\, at the Bob Chisholm Community Center (1225 Avenue A\, Seaside\, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm. \n  \nAdmission for both concerts will be: $10 Adults\, ages 18 and under FREE (children 12 and under with adult supervision).   \nTickets will be available at the door only for both concerts. \nCookies and refreshments will be available at intermission.

SUMMARY:Bay City Arts Center – Art Opening
DESCRIPTION:Join us next Friday from 5-7pm at The Bay City Arts Center for a gallery reception featuring the work of two local artists\, including artwork by Lydia Hess and photography by Robbie McClaran. This monthly event is free and open to the public. \nRobbie McClaran: Beginning in 2013\, and working with an antique eight-by-ten\, large format camera\, Robbie McClaran has been photographing along the entire 1250-mile length of the Columbia River\, from its source in British Columbia to its confluence with the Pacific Ocean. “The Great River of the West”\, explores the River’s current cultural and economic landscape as well as environmental alterations. \nLydia Hess: Lydia Hess looks to the natural world and iconic symbols for inspiration in her artwork. She has worked with carved clay-board\, and block prints for many years as a commercial illustrator. After being introduced to the unexpected spontaneity of monotype printmaking\, she was inspired to infuse these colorful\, textural compositions with her graphic carved images.
