SUMMARY:Grieving and Healing in the Outdoors of Oregon
DESCRIPTION:“Grieving and Healing in the Outdoors of Oregon” is a one-hour presentation by outdoor and travel writer\, photographer\, and author Adam Sawyer. Through a series of photos and essays\, Sawyer details how time spent in the outdoors of Oregon has aided in his recovery from not just addiction\, but the devastating loss of his life partner and home in early 2022. Sharing personal insights and perspectives from time spent in places ranging from urban parks to the state’s grandest natural cathedrals\, Sawyer’s hope is to help reveal the redemptive and healing powers of Mother Nature. As well as how we all benefit greatly from time spent outside\, wherever\, and in whatever capacity we choose.

SUMMARY:Dr. Brian Atwater: The Orphan Tsunami of 1700
DESCRIPTION:A puzzling tsunami entered Japanese history in January\, 1700. Samurai\, merchants and villagers wrote of flooding and damage\, and many said no earthquake had been felt. They had no way of knowing it was spawned by an earthquake along the coast of northwestern North America.\nA fascinating series of discoveries in the 1990sunderpin many of today’s precautions of earthquakes and tsunamis in the Cascadia zone.\nDr. Brian Atwater will share his research on this ancient tsunami and what it means for people in the Northwest\, especially the Oregon Coast.
