DESCRIPTION:The North Oregon Coast Symphony completes its 2022-2023 season with two classical music concerts in June.  This non-profit ensemble\, under the direction of conductor Cory Pederson\, brings together musicians from the north Oregon and south Washington coast.  In addition to selections from Bizet’s L’Arlesienne Suites (Nos. 1 and 2) and an original composition by orchestra member James Achilles\, the concerts will feature several NOCS musicians as soloists.  Accompanied by the orchestra\, Laurie Swanson\, oboe\, will play a haunting piece entitled The Winter’s Passed; Achilles will sing the famous “Figaro” aria from  Rossini’s Barber of Seville; and Jewell High School student Brayden Payne will be featured in Mozart’s clarinet concerto. \nThe orchestra will perform the concerts on Saturday\, June 10\, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. DESCRIPTION:Scheduled to coincide with Free Fishing Weekend\, Kelly’s Brighton Marina will release 26 tagged crabs on Saturday morning and a $10 per ticket entry fee is required to participate in the Crab Derby\, with proceeds from ticket sales going to the sponsored charities – the MuddNick Foundation of Manzanita\, OR and Animal Haven By The Sea Rescue in Nehalem\, OR. All captured tagged crabs must be returned to the marina by 5:00pm and a drawing will be held to determine the top prize of $1\,000 cash. We are excited to welcome back the band “Uncle Jerry” from Cannon Beach who will perform at 6pm. Live music\, games\, crafts\, many great vendors\, raffles\, and a wide array of prizes round out an exciting event that we hope will become an annual tradition for all who attend!

SUMMARY:NORTH OREGON COAST SYMPHONY Presents PETER AND THE WOLF
DESCRIPTION:The North Oregon Coast Symphony continues its 2022-2023 season with two concerts in March. This orchestra\, under the direction of conductor Cory Pederson\, is an ensemble of North Coast musicians offering live classical music in local venues. Titled “Playful Inspirations”\, the afternoon concerts will feature Serge Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf“. This classic children’s tale set to music is the perfect form for introducing young people to the various orchestral instruments\, as each character in the story is represented by a musical “voice.” The narrator will be Liz Cole\, an award-winning stage and TV actor (“Seinfeld”\, “Star Trek”\, “ER”) who now lives in Manzanita. \nThe program will begin with Peter and the Wolf\, and children (with adult supervision) are encouraged to attend. Admission is free for children 12 and under. Cookies and refreshments will be available at intermission. \nOther highlights of the concerts include a Vivaldi guitar piece performed by Jim Achilles\, and solo piano pieces by Bach and Beethoven performed by Diane Amos. The balance of the program will feature full orchestral works by Mendelssohn\, Rossini\, and Beethoven. \nThe first concert will take place on Saturday\, March 11\, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. Hwy 101\, Nehalem\, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm. Tickets will be sold at the door only for this concert. \nThe second concert will be on Sunday\, March 12\, at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts (588 16th St.\, Astoria\, OR) beginning at 3 pm. Tickets will be sold online and at the door for this concert.
