SUMMARY:SYMPHONY PRESENTS CONCERTS IN NOVEMBER
DESCRIPTION:The North Oregon Coast Symphony will begin its 2024-2025 season with two concerts in November.  Titled “Grand Openings\,” this series offers several classical pieces that were originally intended as preludes to larger works such as operas\, including Dvorak’s Hussite Overture\, Rossini’s La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie) Overture\, and Poet and Peasant Overture by Franz von Suppé. In another grand opening\, Dylan Morrow\, a senior at Astoria High School this year\, will be the soloist for the first movement of Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto\, Op. 85. \nThe first concert will take place on Saturday\, November 9\, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. Hwy 101\, Nehalem\, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm. \nThe second concert will be on Sunday\, November 10\, at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts (588 16th St.\, Astoria\, OR) beginning at 3:00 pm. \n  \nAdmission for both concerts will be: $10 Adults\, ages 18 and under FREE (children 12 and under with adult supervision).   \nTickets will be available at the door only for the Nehalem concert. \nTickets for the Astoria concert will be sold online at charlenelarsencenter.org or by phone at 503 338 9132.  Cookies and refreshments will be available at both concerts during intermission. \nThis non-profit orchestra\, under the direction of conductor Cory Pederson\, brings together musicians from the north Oregon and south Washington coast to perform classical music for local audiences.  For more information\, please visit the the NOCS website nocsymphony.org.

SUMMARY:NORTH OREGON COAST SYMPHONY PRESENTS CONCERTS IN JUNE
DESCRIPTION:The North Oregon Coast Symphony concludes its 2023-2024 season with two concerts in June.  Titled “Poetic Palette”\, this series offers a variety of classical pieces from multiple composers.  Concerto for Clarinet\, Viola and Orchestra by Max Bruch features two soloists\, clarinetist Braden Payne (in his final performance with NOCS) and principal violist Betsey Ellerbroek. Other selections include  Offenbach’s Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld\, Rossini’s William Tell Overture\, Berlioz’s Hungarian March\, the symphonic poem In The Forest (Miske) by Ciurlionis\, and Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia. \nThe first concert will take place on Saturday\, June 8\, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. SUMMARY:ORCHESTRA PRESENTS FAMILY CONCERTS IN MARCH
DESCRIPTION:The North Oregon Coast Symphony continues its 2023-2024 season with two concerts in March. Designed to please audience members of all ages\, the performances will feature Greg Smith’s Zoo Song.  This musical story of a young person’s first visit to the zoo is a wonderful form for introducing the various orchestral instruments\, as each animal in the story is represented by a musical “voice.”  The narrator will be Deac Guidi\, a local professional opera singer who has performed throughout the northwest region.  He also teaches Speech Communication at Clatsop Community College. \nContinuing the animals theme\, the program includes three short pieces from Saint Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. A solo cello\, string bass\, and clarinet portray an elegant swan\, a lumbering elephant\, and a cuckoo calling\, all accompanied by pianist Diane Amos. \nOther highlights of the concerts include the orchestral work Irlande by Augusta Holmès\, the familiar Pomp and Circumstance by Edward Elgar\, Julius Fucik’s Entry of the Gladiators\, and Elmer Bernstein’s Great Escape March. \nThe first concert will take place on Saturday\, March 16\, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church (36335 N. SUMMARY:North Oregon Coast Symphony Concert
