Outdoor Adventures & Activities
Some people go on vacation with total relaxation in mind. Others, however, don’t consider it a proper holiday unless they have experienced something different than what they are accustomed to in day-to-day life. Thankfully, the Nehalem Bay area caters to both styles of visitor.
If you are looking for some outdoor exercise, take a walk on local beaches or hike Neahkahnie Mountain, which also offers unparalled views of the ocean, Nehalem Bay and surrounding region. When the tide is out, you can spot a variety of marine creatures in their habitat at tidepools located near the base of Neahkahnie, on the north end of Manzanita Beach.
The beach from Neahkahnie, along Manzanita, to the end of Nehalem Spit makes for an ideal horseback-riding stretch. If you don’t own a horse, you can join a guided horseback-riding tour embarking from Nehalem Bay State Park.
Birders will be happy to learn that the area teems with many species of birds, a number of which are migratory.
There are those who don’t consider a trip to the Coast complete without a crabbing excursion. There are several local marinas that rent boats, gear and bait so you can bring home the freshest Dungeness crab available.
Golfers can practice their swing at the Manzanita Golf Course Driving Range, or play nine holes at the course itself, which is located along the edge of town. The course clubhouse includes a pro shop in case you forgot to bring your gear along.
Those who prefer relaxation can enjoy a massage or any number of spa treatments. How about a nap on the beach?
For those planning to stay in shape while they are on holiday, the area offers two gyms. Both require membership or a daily drop-in fee.
If, on the other hand, you like to keep moving, you can try your hand at stand-up paddling through SUP Manzanita, which offers guided tours of area waterways, including the Nehalem River and Nehalem Bay.
